Wind coefficient

n. A dimensionless coefficient representing the effect of wind speed on propagating flux in the Rothermel (1972) surface fire spread model.

  • Discussion

Wind coefficient is a dimensionless factor in Rothermel's (1972) surface fire spread model that represents the effect of wind speed on rate of spread. It is a function of mid-flame wind speed, characteristic surface-area-to-volume ratio, and relative packing ratio of the fuelbed.
