Wind speed is a general term for the rate of movement of a parcel of air. For most fire management applications, it is necessary to specify the height of the wind speed and the duration of time averaging periods, if any. Standard heights include mid-flame, eye-level, in-stand, 20-foot and 10-meter. Standard time averaging periods include instantaneous, 1 minute, 2 minutes, and 10 minutes.
