Direction of maximum spread results from the algebraic combination of the wind vector and slope vector. It is the heading direction of a fire. Direction of maximum spread is usually specified with respect to the upslope direction or with respect to true North. Direction of maximum spread applies to a point-source fire in uniform conditions or to any point on a fire perimeter in non-uniform conditions.
