Foliar moisture content

n. Moisture content of live foliage.

  • Discussion

In fire modeling applications, foliar moisture content refers specifically to the moisture content of canopy fuel.  The moisture content of foliage in the surface fuel stratum is included in the live woody moisture content. Foliar moisture content is a factor affecting crown fire initiation in U.S. fire modeling systems .

  • Units

Fuel moisture content is most commonly expressed as the mass of water as a fraction or percentage of oven-dry mass. The term moisture fraction is sometimes used when moisture content is expressed as a fraction. Multiply moisture fraction by 100 to get moisture content as a percentage.
