Intermediate

n. A tree whose crown extends into the lower portion of the main canopy of even-aged stands. (Helms 1998)

  • Discussion

Intermediate trees receive little direct light from above and none from the sides. In uneven-aged stands, the crown of an intermediate tree extends into the lower portion of the crowns of its immediate neighbors.
