Packing ratio

n. The fraction of fuelbed volume occupied by fuel particles.

• Discussion

Packing ratio is a measure of fuelbed compactness. Assuming all fuel particles are of the same density, packing ratio is equal to fuel load divided by fuelbed depth divided by particle density.

• Units

   

  Packing ratio is a dimensionless ratio. It is the volume of the fuelbed occupied by solid fuel particles divided by the total fuelbed volume.
