Wind adjustment

n. The adjustment of observed or predicted open wind speed to eye-level or mid-flame wind speed.

  • Discussion

Wind speed increases with height above land cover. For fire behavior modeling, a value for wind speed at mid-flame height is needed, but often the open wind speed is measured or predicted. Instead, wind adjustment is the adjustment of wind speeds at one height above the land cover (open wind speed) to the eye-level or mid-flame wind speed.
